June-ish Updates

Happy July everyone!

I’ll admit, we started drafting this newsletter in June and then life happened! Thank you to everyone who has reached out and to everyone who continues to stay engaged reading this newsletter! Also a big thank you to the dads and grandpas who have shown up with trains, strength, and a calming attitude while we were stressing out!

More updates on our progress:

  • Thanks to everyone who has swung by and said “hi” while we have been working in the space. Even in its current condition, there is so much pride, humility and gratitude I feel showing you around our little dream.

  • On construction–we officially have counters! We also passed our electrical rough inspection. The back and forth on our plumbing continues, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Ask your city council members and building departments “what are you doing to make it easier for local, small business owners to find success in our city?”

  • As we get more confident in our final walkthrough, we will be sure to keep you in the loop on opening dates! 

  • HUGE BIG AMAZING shout out to the Ann Arbor Art Center. They toured our space last week and agreed to fill our empty walls with beautiful art that is for sale by local artists. We cannot wait to showcase the works of so many talented people from our community.

  • PHONE BOOTH IS IN!!! It came in 400 pieces with 100+ pages of instructions, but it came together and looks AMAZING. If you need to quiet a fussy baby or take a quick work call while the kids play nearby, we got you! 

  • Recess is getting a train! Ron, who is maybe the sweetest man we have ever met, came by the space for a tour and to walk us through the track and electronic trains he has generously offered to donate to Recess. Why is this SO cool? Who doesn’t love a space with a train?! We are right near the train tracks and now we will have our very own train circling the cafe. Be on the lookout for it going past our window tops once we open.

  • WE’RE HIRING for two positions: Shift Manager and Associate.  The pay for the Shift Manager position is 15/hr plus tips, and the Associate’s is 13/hr plus tips. If you or someone you know is interested, be sure to reach out! 

  • Thank you again to all who have donated to help us get our feet off the ground :) We are so incredibly grateful and excited that so many of you are invested in our space and want to see our vision come to fruition as much as we do <3
