SERIES OF 6 DATES: February 25th, March 4th, March 11th, March 18th, March 25th, April 1st

Not ready to commit to the entire 6 weeks? Check out our Single Class Pass option.

Join us at Recess Play Cafe (208 South Ashley St) for a 6 week series of immersive and hands-on read aloud activities, aimed to foster a love of books, boost early language skills, and provide families with practical tips for teaching early speech, language and literacy skills at home. All activities are led by a licensed speech-language therapist and incorporate evidence based speech-language acquisition strategies. Activities are designed for toddlers who are exploring their first words/phrases, ages ranging from 10 - 24 months, accompanied by their grownups.

Note: these book clubs are designed to be accessible to children with a variety of learning profiles, but your child does NOT need to have a language delay to attend. They are open to ALL children and parents who have an interest in learning how to incorporate books into daily routines.

EACH WEEK:

  • Introduction of a new story within a lively read aloud experience.

  • Guided play routine incorporating the thematic story elements (characters, settings, problem, solutions, emotions, etc), providing natural opportunities to practice using vocabulary from the story.

  • Age appropriate introduction of social emotional concepts such as patience, empathy, resilience, inclusion, friendship, respect, self-regulation, etc.

  • Thoughtfully designed handouts for continuing the themed literacy and language activities at home.

  • Opportunity for question/answer with the SLP during & after the session.

  • Bring your own favorite toy/book/video from home to receive guidance for how to use it to effectively model language.

  • Option to purchase a play pass with Recess Play Cafe before/after the book club.

  • Snack and Beverages available for caregivers to purchase from Recess Play Cafe.
